New South Australian
Fashion Designers
Those lucky enough to secure a ticket to Friday night’s highly coveted Homestart Fashion and Costume graduate parade Visionary Voyage experienced an exciting spectacle of the most talented emerging South Australian fashion designers.
The showcase featured the collections of 26 graduates of the Bachelor of Creative Arts – Fashion and the Bachelor of Creative Arts – Costume, dual awards offered by TAFE SA and Flinders University.
More than 500 people packed the marquee set up on the plaza area of the Festival Centre for the launch of the new cohort of designers who presented their work to not only family and friends but also key personnel in the SA fashion industry.
From sleek evening wear, vintage-inspired dresses, outfits with an edgy street vibe and a fresh take on corporate wear, these talented creatives presented garments inspired by diverse influences such as architecture, iconic landmarks, the Australian Outback, and different eras in history and music – from The Beatles to Hip Hop. Using the latest techniques and tools to imbue individuality into their outfits, they incorporated the use of 3D printing, fabric manipulation, upcycled fabrics and handcrafted embellishments.
These new South Australian fashion designers are the ones you’ll be hearing about in the future running their own labels or heading up some of the country’s biggest brands. Some may even go global, as we’ve already seen how Adelaide fashion designers have been blazing a trail.

If ever you get the chance to see this annual event, snap up a ticket as soon as you see them offered on line. Don’t wait – this fabulous annual event is a sell-out weeks in advance, every year!
